Ever dreamed of having your very own mermaid tail? Dream no more. The Mertailor creates unique mermaid tails from affordable fabrics, as well as bespoke designs from silicone, to help you become a fish out of water.
Eric Ducharme founded the company in 2009 – when he was just 16-years-old – and has been making these colourful tails ever since. He was part of the cast at Weeki Wachee Springs – a theme park dedicated to mermaids – where he played the role of the prince in their The Little Mermaid show.
Ducharme dedicates his time to creating the most real, fish-like scales for his tails, and continues to experiment with new materials so that all aspiring merfolk can fulfil their dreams of the sea in a variety of looks.
The Mertailor helps everyone become the mermaid they’ve always dreamed of. Even Lady Gaga has worn his designs, and they’ve been featured on Saturday Night Live and RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Whoever you are – adult or child, male or female – these tails are for everyone. Plus, they’re completely swimmable.
Although beautiful, it’s not possible to wear these tails all the time (they weigh a hefty 30-pounds). So thankfully, The Mertailor has a whole line of products for life on and offshore. In his collections, you’ll find bikinis for women and children, available in a selection of colours; and leggings to wear for leisure and as activewear, which are also swimmable. Now you can flip your fins or walk down the – what’s that word again? – street, whenever you feel like it, without your tail keeping you in the sea. Just like Splash (1984) or Aquamarine (2006), you’ll have legs on land and a tail in water, as and when you please.
For some of us, it’s not enough just to look like a mermaid, we need to swim like one, too. The Mertailor Experience offers one-on-one training with the Mertailor himself, Eric Ducharme. Drawing on his experience at Weeki Wachee Springs, Ducharme will teach you how to swim like a ‘real’ mermaid or merman, as well as various underwater breathing techniques.
The Mertailor’s products have also been featured in a movie called Scales – Mermaids Are Real. It follows the story of a young, ordinary girl named Siren Phillips, who discovers she’s a mermaid and begins her transition. But it’s not all fin and games – Siren is hunted by a group of men who threaten her transformation.
